Robert E. Mallernee, CFA
Founding Partner
Rob has more than 30 years of experience in advising closely held businesses, senior corporate executives, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists and wealthy families by building comprehensive, multi-generational investment, financial, and estate plans. Prior to co-founding Eton Advisors, he served as head of the UBS Multi-Family Office Group. Earlier in his career, Rob served as a founding principal of the US Trust Multi-Family Office, and before that, as head of the Private Asset Management Group at NC Trust Company, which was sold to US Trust in 1999. Rob began his career at Arthur Andersen and Price Waterhouse in North Carolina and Chicago, where he was a Senior Tax Manager. His experience is particularly deep in estate and income tax planning, investment advisory services, and complex governance and succession issues. Rob co-teaches a graduate-level course Personal Investing & Wealth Management at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst. Rob holds an MBA in International Business & Finance from the University of Chicago, and a BS from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
W. Jackson Parham, Jr., CFA
Founding Partner, Chief Investment Officer
Jack has more than 25 years of industry experience and oversees Eton Advisors’ investment group. He is responsible for applying Eton’s goals-based investment process to specific clients portfolios and serves as a member of Eton’s Investment Committee. Jack also serves at the outsourced CIO for an international single family office. Prior to co-founding Eton Advisors, he served as CIO of the UBS Multi-Family Office Group. Before that, Jack was CIO and founding principal of the US Trust MFO Group, where he was a member of the Investment Strategy Committee, Open Architecture Investment Committee, and the Investment Committee of CTC Consulting. Earlier in his career, Jack spent ten years as a College Finance Professor and served as Chairman of the Department of Business, Economics and Accounting at Hillsdale College. Jack is a Chartered Financial Analyst. He earned an MBA in Finance at the Darden Graduate School of the University of Virginia and a BA in History from Freed-Hardeman College. Jack co-teaches a graduate-level course Personal Investing & Wealth Management at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, and is a member of the Advisory Board of the Journal of Wealth Management.
Teresa Eriksson
Founding Partner
Teresa has more than 20 years of industry experience focused on firm management, entrepreneurial start-ups and business development. Prior to co-funding Eton Advisors, she served as head of operations of the UBS Multi-Family Office Group. Before that, Teresa served as Chief Operating Officer at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro, where she worked to build organizational capacity and an infrastructure to support growth. Prior to that she was at US Trust as Vice President of Strategy & Marketing with responsibility for seven offices in the Mid-Atlantic Region and served as a member of the board of directors of the US Trust Corporation Foundation. Teresa began her career in National Sales and Athletic Event Marketing where she ran national and international events for the NCAA, Women’s World Cup, NBA, and multiple Olympic Teams. Teresa is a native of Sweden and holds a BS in International Business from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Brian Hughes
President
Brian has more than 30 years of industry experience and as the President of Eton Advisors, leads the firm’s strategic initiatives, growth and developing thought leadership for the firm’s clients. Prior to joining Eton, Brian was founder and President of Hughes Growth Strategies (HGS), a consultancy working with firms who serve ultra-high net worth families and private foundations. Prior to launching HGS, Brian was responsible for building and cultivating family and private foundation relationships that fit the personalized client service model at Threshold Group (now part of AITi Tiedmann Global), a privately held multifamily office started by George Russell. He was also managing director and head of business development for Pitcairn, a privately held multi-family office, where he led the firm’s global business development efforts. He spent 15 years with Lincoln Financial Group, where he served as Regional CEO for LFG and Sagemark Consulting, a fee-based planning firm in St. Louis, Missouri. With extensive knowledge of wealth management and the family office industry, Brian has been a featured speaker at many programs, including the Wealth & Giving Forum, Impact Capitalism, the Family Wealth Alliance, the Family Firm Institute Annual Meeting, Schwab IMPACT and the CFA Society of Philadelphia Private Wealth Conference. Brian is the Managing Director of the Southeastern Family Office Forum, and he serves on the Advisory Board and Faculty of the Ultra High Net Worth Institute, as well as an Ambassador to R360. Brian earned a BS from the University of Tampa, and the Private Wealth Management Program at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
John C. Wallace, CFA
Partner, Senior Investment Officer
John provides investment consulting services to Eton’s multi-generational client families and also serves as Chair of the investment committee. Prior to joining Eton, he most recently was Head of Global Equity and Real Asset Strategies for Franklin Street Partners in Chapel Hill, where he oversaw both the firm’s global equity program and real assets program. In this role, he conducted portfolio and product management, manager research and due diligence, and portfolio construction. John also served as a portfolio manager and consultant for both individuals and institutions in his role as a Client Portfolio Strategist at the firm. Previously, John worked at Smith Breeden Associates as a Vice President in the Product Portfolio Management group, focusing on the firm’s absolute return and hedge fund strategies. His career has also included roles at J.P. Morgan Private Bank and MarketBridge. John holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He graduated with honors with a degree in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Cass Scholar. He earned his MBA from UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, where he was a Dean’s Scholar and a Burlington Industries Fellow.
Brad F. Dalton, CFA
Partner, Senior Portfolio Manager
Brad is responsible for client investment analysis and reporting for multi-generational wealthy individuals and families. In his role, Brad serves on the Investment Committee and manages client portfolios. His expertise includes investment analysis, financial planning, analysis and modeling, and business development. Prior to joining UBS in 2008 and Eton Advisors in 2009, Brad served as a Financial Advisor with the Principal Financial Group, providing financial planning services, including retirement planning, asset allocation, estate planning, and tax strategies to high net worth clients. Before that, Brad served as Assistant Vice President and Investment Analyst at BB&T Asset Management and performed fundamental analysis on individual equities for the Core Model, Equity Income, and Large Cap Portfolios. Brad is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds an MBA from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a BS in Finance from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
Dexter Blackwell, CPA
Partner, Senior Wealth Manager
Dexter serves as Senior Wealth Manager for several multi-family office clients and non-profit organizations. He is responsible for communication, financial and estate planning, as well as the day-to-day implementation and monitoring of the clients’ service plans. He is a Certified Public Accountant and brings international tax and accounting expertise to the team. Previously, Dexter served as an International Tax Consultant at Deloitte Tax LLP, where he worked on a variety of compliance and consulting projects for individuals, corporations, and foreign partnerships. Dexter earned his Master of Accounting, with a concentration in Tax, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a Full Tuition Scholarship, and he graduated in the Top 10% of his class. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with Distinction from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a Carolina Research Scholar and a Boeing Fellow.
Sarah C. Sculley
Chief Operating Officer & Chief Compliance Officer
Sarah is responsible for overseeing regulatory compliance for Eton Advisors. In addition, she manages the budget development, financial reporting, and human resources. Prior to joining Eton Advisors, she served as Chief Compliance Officer and Fixed-Income Manager for Weik Capital Management, and also as member of their investment committee. Before that she was the Operations Manager for the same firm. Sarah graduated cum laude from Albright College, where she obtained a BS in Business Administration and majoring in accounting, economics, and finance. She also holds a professional designation of Accredited Asset Management SpecialistSM .
Chaley Munn
Wealth Management Associate
Chaley supports the client relationship team with day-to-day operations of the client service plans, including financial analysis, preparing agreements and reports, and assisting with transactions. Prior to joining Eton Advisors, she was a design and operations intern at Around Campus Group and LaVenson Press Studios. Chaley earned a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Post-Baccalaureate Degree in Teaching Sociology at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Khalil K. Grant
Wealth Management Associate
Khalil supports the client relationship team with day-to-day operations of the client service plans, including financial analysis, preparing agreements and reports, and assisting with transactions. Prior to joining Eton, Khalil served as a Financial Planner at Shade Tree Advisors, and before that, he was an Associate at Goldman Sachs Ayco Personal Financial Management. In these roles he provided investment, financial, income tax, and estate planning services to multi-generational ultra-high-net worth families. Khalil holds a BA in Economics and African, African American, and Diaspora Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Garrett Howerton
Investment Associate
Garrett supports the investment team with research and analysis, preparing client deliverables, and investment operations duties. As part of his role, he participates in Investment Committee meetings and serves as co-secretary. Garrett earned his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science with a minor in Entrepreneurship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
